Plans your route on the canals of England, Wales and the Scottish Lowlands, counts every lock, and is honest about how long it'll take. Routes work with no signal.

How far? How long? Where's the water?

The questions every boater asks before casting off. Butty answers them before you've found your windlass.

  1. Routes that count the locks.

Pick where you are and where you're headed. Butty works the route out on your phone, no signal needed, and counts every lock on the way.

    6 at Braunston + 7 up Buckby = 13

  2. Next lock in 1.2 miles.

Once you're moving, the map turns with the boat, the next lock counts down and your arrival time keeps up as you go. Glance at it, then get back to steering.

  3. 19,000 places worth knowing.

Where's the next water point? Where can you wind? Butty knows about 19,000 of them: water points, moorings, pump-outs, bins, fuel, winding holes, slipways and car parks, from OpenStreetMap and Canal & River Trust data. All of it works offline.

  4. Widebeams get routes that fit.

Tell Butty your length and beam and it steers you away from locks we know you won't fit. Set your pace and how long you take at a lock, and the times match the way you actually boat.

Why Butty exists

Butty started out of pure annoyance. The canal map I'd been using was smothered in adverts and paywalls, and after all that it was still rubbish.

So I built the one I wanted, without adverts, and added the features I felt were missing. Every canal in England, Wales and the Scottish Lowlands on your phone, the time to your next lock, car parks en route, multiple stops, and times that are honest about your boat.
